“NEW HOME, NEW LOOK: TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR READY FOR 2018/19 SEASON”
“Binary blue and polarised blue knit sleeves reinforce the team’s heritage and values as they pay homage to the secondary blue used in many past kits.”
What you have just read is the official marketing launch blurb that accompanied Nike’s unveiling of the new Tottenham away shirt, as seen above.
Odd then, that all this special reinforcing of heritage and values has resulted in Nike palming Spurs off with the exact same strip that they’ve foisted on Barcelona to train in this season.
Bar the Spurs badges and logos, we can see no visual difference between the two. Not one. They’re even the exact same shade of “binary and polarised blue”.
Honestly, we’ve gone past the point of being angry with Nike, Adidas et al for their newfound heavy reliance on dull, repetitive templates.
It’s shoddy and lazy, but we might retain a modicum of acceptance if they didn’t try to pass these stock homogeneous identikits off as artisan creations steeped in precision design and historical significance.
Gah.
