Number-based news from the mighty Tottenham Hotspur, via the club’s website:

“Following the closure of the summer transfer window, our four new arrivals – Sandro, William Gallas, Stipe Pletikosa and Rafael Van der Vaart – have been given squad numbers for the season.

Brazilian international midfielder Sandro arrived at the Club this week having won the Copa Libertadores with previous club Internacional a fortnight ago and will wear the number 30 shirt.

Experienced French defender Gallas joins us on a one-year contract and will wear the number 13 shirt.

Croatian goalkeeper Pletikosa arrives on a season-long loan from Spartak Moscow and will wear the number 37 jersey.

And the final arrival of the latest transfer window, Dutch international midfielder Van der Vaart, has been given the number 11 shirt.”

So, to recap:

Rafael Van Der Vaart No.11 (you beauty)

William Gallas No.13 (as he had at Chelsea)

Sandro No.30

Stipe Pletikosa No.37

That is all. COYS.

@gamblos Oh FFS let ollie get his kicks in before they crash out of champions league and finish 7th this year.

… just ahead of Arsenal and Liverpool… and “FFS”, crashing out of the group stage of CL is better than most teams in the EPL could even hope for, especially since I remember hearing people say Spurs were going to crash out of qualifying and never get 4th in the league too.

Mr. X is an idiot if he thinks Spurs will finish ahead of Arsenal. I’m Liverpool fan, and yes, it’s possible that Spurs will finish ahead of us, but Spurs fans need to get a reality check. Furthermore, stop clamoring over Van Der Vaart. He’s lost it.

as a fellow dutchman i’ll say he never really had it. he had an outstanding first season in the bundesliga(at the time still considered a the 4th best league in the world) but have been disappointed he never really convinced anyone at real madrid. even while he went through a prolonged period of time as starter. vdv’s is a decent playmaker but he’s just not exceptional. he doesn’t have much speed, his vision is satisfactory, and he’s terribly UN-clinical. his attempts at goal are extremely poor. that while in his early ajax years who proved a very good make-shift striker racking up many goals.

this is his last chance to prove himself he can make it in a big side in a big league and be a dominating factor. otherwise before he’s 30 he’ll only be seeing mid-table fodder of the bolton and real zaragoza like lining up for him. and then he’ll probably be best off just going back to ajax.
