Perversely, it was Tottenham not Arsenal who fielded something of a second-string XI in the Carling Cup; maybe old Arsene has decided that winning the Carling Cup would be better than winning NOTHING AT ALL for another season.

So it was Tottenham’s kids – the likes of Jake Livermore, Kyle Naughton and Steven Caulker, all of whom started – who learned a football lesson from the Gunners (I admit it). Even if it took extra time to decide the match, there’s no doubt that Arsenal deserved to win the match. Jack Wilshere, who is developing at a rate that would raise both your eyebrows even in the virtual world of Pro Evo, was again impressive – he really needs to be reinstated to the senior England set-up for the next match; his immense potential is there for all to see. I just wish he played for the Lilywhites.

For Spurs, new signing Sandro made his debut and looked okay – he can’t be judged on one match, but I have a feeling he’ll do well for us.

Note to Harry Redknapp: Sell Robbie Keane now, before he’s worth less than zero.

I am annoyed by this myth that Arsene stuck out our first team. Only three players who were on the pitch from the start last night (Nasri, Wilshere and Koscielny)are first team regulars. The rest are second choice players. They are just a lot better than Spurs second string players.

Incidentally I am gutted for Gibbs, he will be our first choice left back soon as long as he can stay fit

    Fair point

We were miles off in producing our best performance. What we now have to do,is strategise how best we can outsmart our counterparts in the future, with the resouces we have at our disposal.

We don’t seem to be improving in this area.Although, I must say that most of our players had very little playing time playing together as a “team”

Besides Wilshere has only just broken into the first team this season and will likely be back to being a sub once Cesc and Diaby return to fitness.

  5. piskiesurfer says:

The idea that Arsenal started with their first XI is laughable. Spurs fans are embarrassing themselves to suggest it.

    Fabianski (Alumina)
    Gibbs (Clichy)
    Djourou (Vermaalen)
    Koscielney (Squillaci possibly)
    Eboue (Sagna)
    Rosicky (Song)
    Nasri (possibly Diaby)
    Wilshere (Fabregas)
    Lansbury (Arshavin)
    Vela (RVP)

It was a strong team yes, but just because they would walk into the spurs side, doesn’t mean that they walk into the Arsenal side – at least 9 of those players are ‘second string’.

I wonder if ‘arry still thinks Spurs have got the better squad ;)

  6. […] Spurs on the other hand are still feeling the pain of losing quite emphatically to the Gunners yeste… on their own turf.  Ok it was a very weakened team, but still we all know how much pride and prestige is attached to the North London derby and any defeat against your closest rivals in your own back yard is hard to stomach.  From the defeat, Spurs could still be in a funk and would fall vulnerable to a more rejuvinated Hammers team.  However we all know teams like United and Chelsea are always keen to redeem themselves and bounce back straight after a damning defeat has been inflicted upon them – Spurs will no doubt want to put this result behind them and what better team to gain some face back over…another London rival.  The cynical footballing realist in me might have preferred Spurs to have beaten the Arsenal so come Saturday, Spurs would still be in their little bubble of Arsenal triumph and be still flogging 5-4 victory DVDs down the Seven Sisters lane.
