Whilst UEFA have vowed to probe Milan scrappers Gennaro Gattuso’s ill-advised touchline spat (a five-match ban is being tentatively mooted) with Tottenham assistant Joe Jordan  in the San Siro last night, it seems that Mathieu Flamini will escape any further punishment for his two-footed, battering ram of a tackle on Spurs defender Vedran Corluka after the Frenchman received a yellow card for his troubles during the game.

Red card, all day long.

When even Graham Souness is appalled by your tackling, you know you must be doing something wrong.

    He play the Ball.

  2. Greg says:

Am I the only one upset by AC Milan’s performance last night? I wanted to see a open attacking game yet they decided to play the ugly side of football. Considering they are one of the first teams I can remember being in awe of, it was most upsetting.

fuck you gattuso you fucking shit stabing prick! you’l get a taste of your medicine one day! you little fat midget cunt!

  4. The Yank says:

@Greg – Typical Champions League these days. Every team is so uptight about not losing, they play crap football. I’m sure the return fixture will see Milan attack more. Of course, Redknapp is going to put a 10-0-0 formation and hold on to that one goal for dear life, so it won’t be easy. Its not because thats how they play, but because progressing to the next round is more important than doing it rightly.

Meanwhile The Guardian reports that “…a tougher retrospective punishment could not be imposed. The Uefa spokesman said: “If he’s been shown a card nothing can be done.”
There’s yet another ridiculous rule that should be changed. That guy was extremely lucky to get away from that with his bones in tact. Well, hopefully – no report on the x-ray results yet. This shit makes me LIVID!

  6. Greg says:

@The Yank – That is true. Tournament football has taken a dramatic drop in standards recently, the world cup was a prime example. I applaud Spurs for playing the right way last night.

  7. Theirishembassy says:

Flamini went in on that tackle with the intent to hurt him, plain and simple. There’s no reason why he shouldn’t have been shown a straight red. You don’t play the ball two footed.

  8. Ping Yang says:

He got the ball. This is football. I’ve seen worse tackles. The ball was there to be won. Seriously. I am not trying to attack Tottenham but seriously. The ball left his foot. I admit using both of his studs is pretty bad. But other than that he wanted the ball and got it. He actually gets the ball. It is just the follow through and the momentum that just so hard. If he did not go in with two feet then that would have been deemed as a great tackle. In my opinion, it was a good tackle. I would have done exactly the same thing.

  9. Miguel - NYC says:

The tackle deserved a red card.
The Spurs player should know better and jump away from that tackle but Flamini’s intention are there.
Sure, every play has momentum but 2 studs up can break an ankle.
To say that it was a “good tackle” is reckless and shows how little respect you have for the game.
If the spurs player would have jumped and landed on flamini’s leg, then he would have probably seen a card.

Gattuso needs to have less coke before games. The dude was insane.

  10. Steve says:

    @ Ping Yang –

    – “He got the ball”
    – “If he did not go in with two feet then that would have been deemed as a great tackle”.

    And your point is?

    – Whether or not you win the ball has no bearing on whether or not the tackle was dangerous.

    – He did go in with two feet, with his studs showing, and off the ground – so saying it would have been a great tackle if he’d tackled in a completely different way is completely missing the point, isn’t it.

This isn’t about whether he deliberately tried to hurt the other player (I’m sure he didn’t), its about whether he made a tackle that could have resulted in serious injury (which he did).

  11. dnpma says:

thats a difficult decision i think. of course he gets the ball and he gets there first, but like ping yang said: he uses both legs + studs showing + with the momentum and follow through on display he risks his opponents health. i am no spurs fan, i usually like flamini – but what do the rules say?

  12. Muppetude says:

Ping Yang, I wouldn’t comment on ping-pong, something I know nothing about; so I would suggest you stop commenting on football, something you know nothing about.

Let’s agree to disagree. It is my point of view. I respect your opinion. So lets just leave it at that, to avoid a war of words.
    @ Muppetude
um….. I’m struggling for words. I know you were trying to be a smart ass by making fun of my user name and being a tad racist, but I would really shut my mouth if I were you. You actually have no proof that, I know nothing about football. I really do not need to say anything. You have nothing to back yourself up. Next time Ollie posts a Prediction League, why don’t you shut your mouth and see if you can get predict some matches and get up the league. Then you can prove that you know your football. Dumbass. P.S. At least I have some evidence to back myself up. Just check the past league tables. :)

    @ Muppetude
“Something you know nothing about” Just check the league table in Ollie’s prediction league. Over the last 12 weeks of matches. That’s my proof. Where’s yours?
Taking a stab at my user name by writing that ridiculously stupid comment, is a tad corny (why do you think “Wall” made fun of it) Just read it over. I would feel embarrassed. I know you were trying to be a little smart ass, but c’mon, think of something better. Or just get straight to the point. Just for future reference, to avoid sounding like a dumbass.

  16. chimpo says:

surely he wasn’t unpunished- he got a yellow…?
