Don’t let the gormless gurn fool ye! When asked by a journo why he’d chosen to move to Hull at his press conference unveiling, Jelavic simply replied: “Because it was the only concrete offer.”

  1. Derek says:

I think Jelavic will be a good signing for Hull – a proven goal scorer. I read that they are also going after Shane Long. I don’t get why: aren’t Long and Jelavic similar players? Both centre forwards? Why would they need 2 of them?

  2. Giancarlo says:

@Derek: Because small-town teams led by British managers think that if you purchase enough strikers you’ll win games, but don’t worry about bleeding goals in, we’ll fix that ala 1970s Brazil and just score more than the other team!

  3. Al says:

@Giancarlo I don’t know where you get that from, Hull are relatively solid at the back, only 27 goals conceeded which isn’t bad for a promoted team, it’s been proven that if you can get a striker in to double figures you have a really good chance of staying up so buying strikers is a neccesity

@Derek Jelavic is slow and a bit predictable but a good goal poacher who will score channces that come his way, Long is quick and keeps defenders constantly guessing but unfortunately(as I’m Irish) he just doesn’t score that many goals. You would have to presume that Bruces thinking is that combining the two will result in enough goals to keep them up.

Ha! What a stirring battle cry. He’s right though, there’s nothing more concrete than Hull. Maybe Coventry.
