On the back of our Player of the Season vote, the shortlist for the official PFA Player of the Year award has just been announced. Cristiano Ronaldo and Didier Drogba head the list, naturally, with a supporting cast of Wayne Rooney, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Steven Gerrard and… wait for it… you’re gonna love this… honestly… Cesc Fabregas. How the hell does Fabregas get a nomination? He’s a creative midfielder with one Prem goal to his name this season, and playing for a team that will win no trophies. Yes, he’s had some excellent games in the first half of the season but he’s faded badly, and for blinkered Arsenal fans to say that he’s the best central midfielder in the league – as many do – is plainly nonsense. Michael Essien has had a much better season than Fabregas, not to mention Rooney and Gerrard. What a joke – Jose Mourinho will surely have something to say about Essien’s glaring absence from the list.
Details on nominations for PFA Young Player of the Year after the click…
The shortlist for the PFA Young Player of the Year is as follows:
Wayne Rooney, Cristiano Ronaldo, Cesc Fabregas, Kevin Doyle, Aaron Lennon, Micah Richards
Ronaldo simply has to win this and the main award too. Micah Richards has done pretty well at Man City, but I’d argue that Daniel Agger has had a stronger season for Liverpool.
