Dundee United prodigy Ryan Gauld has completed a £2.2million move to Sporting Lisbon this morning, with the Portuguese giants reportedly sticking a whopping €60million release clause into the 18-year-old attacking midfielder’s six-year contract.
Both Dundee United and Sporting have issued short statements this morning to confirm the conclusion of the transfer.
He may have flown under the radar slightly south of the border, but Gauld (nicknamed “‘Mini-Messi” by Dundee United fans) scored eight goals in 38 appearances for the Tangerines last season and is ear-marked to become Scotland’s brightest light.
Best of luck to the lad. It’s always refreshing to see young British talent trying their hand overseas.
