It’s official people, Arsenal have splurged another £16million this summer to procure 19-year-old right-back Calum Chambers from Southampton (where else?), with the England U21 international signing a “long-term contract” at The Emirates.

The Gunners then released several photos of the youngster sporting his new colours, as well as unveiling his squad number for next season…

25 total senior appearances = £16million.

Something’s gone terribly wrong somewhere.

Worst bit of business by Saints in a long long time, including Osvaldo. Disgrace

But saying that, good luck to the lad. No resentment towards him at all, unlike his older counterparts (excluding SRL). He will do well at Arsenal. Debuchy should be slightly worried.

Interesting how Wenger seems to get our best prospects for the best price, compared to how we rip off a fair few others. I just pray that if we have to sell Morgan (which we don’t and shouldn’t) then it’s to Spurs and not Arsenal, purely because I think there would be about a £15m difference in price.

@Kingsland101: interesting perspective considering most thought Arsenal overpaid considering his experience level. People forget that ManU paid the same price for Zaha, and while the verdict is certainly still pending, Chambers seems destined to be more influential and important. Arsenal have never paid this type of money for this type of player in the past so it appears ambitious — assuming they fill other needs.

Levy seems like a pretty tough negotiator, his whole stick is to buy young players and sell them at peak value or at least make some profit. So he charges exhorbitant fees and I think he likes a deal on the other side of the coin. Though, yes, he probably is quicker to let loose than AW.

Depending on which source you believe we bought The Ox for a similar fee with not that many more senior appearances at a much lower level than Premier League.

Jury is out, but it could (fingers crossed) turn out to be not a bad bit of business.

    Time will tell…

The jury is obviously still out, but (fingers crossed) it could turn out to be a decent bit of business.

You’d expect to pay more for attacking players like Oxlade-Chamberlain, defenders are always cheaper. Except when they come from Southampton!
