The arrival of Mauricio Pochettino hasn’t had quite the desired effect at White Hart Lane this season, with the Lilywhites nowhere near target of a top-four berth and with the club’s season rather petering out.

While the club are expected to ship out a whole host of under-performing stars in the summer, Portuguese right-back Miguel Lopes looks set to join the club at the end of the season.

According to the Metro, the Lilywhites are ready to bid for the defender, who can also play at left-back, although no transfer fee is mentioned.

Spurs had initially planned to sign Lopes in January, only for a tibia injury to scupper that move for the Portuguese international. However, now the deal looks likely, with the player expected to provide cover for the likes of Kyle Walker and Danny Rose.

Lopes could turn out to be a shrewd signing by Pochettino, but if Tottenham are to challenge for a top-four place next season, they’ll surely need some bigger names to re-energise their team.

Could be something in this one, wethinks.
