“Psst, Mesut… I’ll turn you into the new Lee Cattermole”

The Daily Star reports/speculates/makes-it-up that Jose Mourinho is planning a summer move for Arsenal’s German playmaker Mesut Ozil.

The Chelsea boss won La Liga with Ozil at Real Madrid and continues to be a big fan of the World Cup winner, who is started to rediscover his best form after a second season in the Premier League plagued by injury and poor form.

The Star’s source is a piece on Spanish website fichajes.net which claims that Mourinho is interested in Ozil. However, it would surely take a bid of monumental proportions to prize the silken midfielder away from the Emirates.

The Star tries to add context to the story by claiming Ozil is unhappy with being labelled ‘lazy’ by some Arsenal fans, but it all seems a bit of a leap of faith to suggest there is anything concrete in the rumour

Indeed, one imagines that Mourinho may well be playing games here if he has publicly voiced his desire to bag Ozil. Anyway, if he did buy him, he’d no doubt try to turn him into a functional, no-frills worker drone a la Willian and Oscar – and that just ain’t going to happen with good old Mesut, is it?
