It’s official: Cedric Soares is now a Southampton player…

Soares, who was born in Germany but has four Portugal caps to his name, is a 23-year-old right-back who signs for Saints from Sporting Lisbon on a four-year deal for nowt.

We’d be lying if we told you we’d ever heard of him before but apparently he’s a solid citizen, at least according to Pies’ Portuguese football nark. Nothing fancy, nothing jarringly amiss, we’re told.

Whether or not Soares is being brought in as a direct replacement for up-for-grabs-right-back-de-rigueur Nathaniel Clyne remains to be seen as Manchester United and, more prominently, Liverpool, continue to circle over the England defender’s head.

Chris, “who signs for Saints from Sporting Lisbon”, Sporting Clube de Portugal ;)

“Nothing fancy, nothing jarringly amiss” seems about right!
