Liverpool have signed Brazil international Roberto Firmino this morning, chucking almost £30million at Hoffenheim for the pleasure – thus making him the club’s second most expensive signing of all time behind ‘you know who’.

Having signed a five-year contract, the 23-year-old attacking midfielder will move to Anfield once he’s done missing glorious chances at the Copa America and passed a medical…

It’s safe to say that the majority of Liverpool fans are quite excited about Firmino’s imminent arrival, with his Youtube highlights and 2014/15 Bundesliga stats (seven goals and 10 assists in 33 games) certainly making for intriguing viewing.

Personally, we can’t help but think £29million is a little on the steep side for a young-ish and largely unproven player with one-and-a-half semi-convincing seasons under his belt, but if that’s the money it took to get him on board then who are we to deny Liverpool fans a reason to be cheerful?

It seems £30million or thereabouts is the going rate for anybody half decent these days anyway, so hey ho.

“One-and-a-half semi-convincing seasons”? That just ain’t true. He’s been one of the best players in the last two seasons and even impressed earlier, when he was still 20.

@PFFG: Every time I’ve seen him in past two years he’s definitely been patchy at best. The odd cute through-ball/movement/finish interspersed with a lot of general nothingness.

Honestly, I’ve always thought he looked more accomplished in defensive situations than going forward. His tackling, pressing and harrying seems far more natural than his approach play.

whatever at least they are spending some money right? albeit it be a tad misguided
