Coming days after Lewis Holtby and Paulinho were allowed to swan off to Hamburg and Guangzhou Evergrande respectively, it seems that Tottenham’s great fringe midfielder exodus is finally upon us with the news that Etienne Capoue has joined newly-promoted Watford on a four-year deal.
The Frenchman joins the Hornets for a club record fee, widely reported to be £5.7million…

Word on the wire is that Watford are also in talks to take Benjamin Stambouli off Spurs’ hands too. Best of luck to ’em.
So along with Paulinho, Capoue’s departure makes it two of the “magnificent seven” (the seven players Spurs purchased with the Gareth Bale money in the summer of 2013) that have now been flogged on again at a considerable loss – the five remaining being Nacer Chadli, Roberto Soldado, Vlad Chiriches, Erik Lamela and Christian Eriksen.
Yeesh. It looks like worse business every time you revisit it.
