It’s over. It’s finally…over.

Everybody can finally go about their lives as normal again.

Raheem Sterling has joined Manchester City from Liverpool. Raheem Sterling is a Manchester City player. He no longer plays for Liverpool. He now plays for Man City.

It is official. He will wear the No.7 shirt vacated by James Milner, who is now a Liverpool player. The cosmos moves in mysterious ways.

The exorbitant £49million fee makes Sterling far and away the most expensive under-21 player in the history of football, comprehensively eclipsing the £32million that PSG paid Sao Paulo for Lucas Moura, then aged 19, back in 2012.

More importantly, it means that Andy Carroll is no longer the most expensive English player of all time. That little punchline is no more. No wonder Liverpool were so desperate to hold out for as many pennies as possible.

QPR have also reaped a tidy £9million windfall thanks to the sell-on clause they had the foresight to insert in the small print when Liverpool nabbed Sterling from their clutches back in 2012.

*And breathe*

Suddenly we hear the birds singing in the trees again…a brook babbling away contently…we hear a gentle summer breeze rustling through a meadow of wild flowers…

All is well, all is well.

I see the Liverpool Old Boys Union has already closed ranks and started burying young Raheem. Quotes of ‘not world class’ ‘deal of the century for Liverpool’ ‘vanilla midget who couldn’t draw a dime’ and ‘overrated’ have been circling.
