Less than a week after declaring himself faithful unto Aston Villa, Fabian Delph has gone back on his word and signed a five-year deal with Manchester City – who paid Villa a reported £8million for the privilege.

Apparently City wooed Delph by giving him 100,000 weekly reasons to ditch Villa after their initial attempts at seduction were snubbed.

He will wear the No.18 shirt…

We’re not going to sit here and postulate on the demise of loyalty and honour in football. That ship sailed years ago. It’s only business. No hard feelings.

However, as we mentioned when the U-turn rumours surfaced earlier this afternoon, City’s first Aston Villa (A) fixture this coming season is certainly going to make for enthralling viewing.

Clearly he didn’t speak to Scott Sinclair much in the dressing room last season…

There’s one thing we’re not considering here: what if Aston Villa just needed the money and asked him to accept the offer? It seems quite clear to me that Delph is a smart guy and didn’t like the odds of sitting on the bench at City, especially as his England career is just getting started. If it was just a matter of money then there’s no reason for him to publicly pledge his loyalty, he and his agent could have just kept negotiating for more. I think this is an instance in which Delph probably didn’t want to go, but Villa would have been willing to part with him for the money. If that’s the case then if i’m his agent i’d try to get him as high a wage as possible.

All the best for next season, Fabian. Best buy a nice warm seat cosy for your arse.

The sweet advert is a pain.

Or… Delph saw Benteke on his way out & thought “Villa am stuffed, I’m off too”. Can’t say I blame him really.

Or… Man City are doing the Panini card collecting thing… with REAL people! Yep, that’s it. That’s what uber-rich people would do, y’know, once they’re bored with the yachts & Ferrari’s.
