It’s all been a little ‘Arsenal-heavy’ this morning but them’s the breaks…

According to reports in The Sunday Mirror yesterday, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is planning a major rebuild of his squad during the off-season and will target Bolton’s Gary Cahill as part of the summer overhaul.

With William Gallas looking increasingly likely to be leaving The Emirates at the end of the season, Wenger has turned his sights on 24-year-old Cahill as the player he wants to replace the outbound French centre-back.

It has been reported that Arsenal will have a significant amount of cash to spend during the close season but the Gunner’s boss has said that he will not be held to ransom for any of his transfer targets, so whether Bolton will let their highly-rated defender leave for a reasonable fee remains to be seen.

I reckon if Arsenal can bring in Cahill for under £10 million (although I expect Bolton will be holding out for nearer £15 million) then they’ll be laughing. He is young (ish), committed, strong, comfortable on the ball and improving year upon year i.e, exactly what the Arsenal defence needs.

Plus, coupled with Thomas Vermaelen, you’re looking at a centre-back pairing that is liable to get you ten or more goals a season.

Would be ideal. We may well need 2 centre-backs if Gallas leaves. I would love if we managed to keep Gallas and Campbell for one more year and signed Cahill or whoever to play alongside Vermaelen. And let’s not forget Djourou.

Would be a cracking signing, dont think Arsenal will be the only big club in for him this summer. Im thinking Big Wes and Gary Cahill.

Can’t see it happening if it’s in the Mirror. As far as football transfer rumours go, they are filthy lie merchants.

Wenger will buy, but he’ll buy another small player like Vermaelen.

The only big guys we’ll have at the back wil be Djorou, and Campbell if we keep him.

Can any of the big clubs really afford to spend more than £10m on a central defender? Liverpool can’t. Man U can’t. Unless they sell players. Chelsea and Man City probably don’t need any more central defenders. If Cahill’s available, hopefully we’re the only ones with the need and the resource to bid for him. Same goes for Subotic.

Djorou is needed ALONG SIDE CAHILL OR ZAPATA

  6. Hirsty says:

Cahill would be a top signing for anybody, but how sad is it that the prospect of Arsenal buying an English player just seems slightly off?

would be an ideal signing. bring back sol for cover and djourou is coming back (its a shame he got hurt his potential was steadily being realized hopefully he comes back and continues without a hitch, but given our track record with injured players itll take him awhile). cahill and vermaelen would be a top notch central defense partnership
