As humble and self-effacing as ever, Emmanuel Adebayor has announced he’s more than ready for a return to the Premier League thanks to his “golden genes”.

And there’s us thinking his genes were more of a ‘neon puce’…

Anyway, after slumping out of the Africa Cup of Nations with Togo last night, the 32-year-old’s thoughts immediately turned back to matters of a domestic nature having been without a club since leaving Crystal Palace at the end of last season.

Thankfully, in an interview with the FIFA website, Adebayor assured any potential suitors that he’s ready and raring to go:

I am confident that I can still play at that level. I am blessed with golden genes. Physically, I would certainly be able to handle the pressure.

I am the one who makes jokes when it is necessary, but I can also put my foot down if serious work is required.

My father taught me to always say what I think. At times, that can lead to problems – but I always sleep well.

Three goals in his last 32 Premier League appearances (over a span of two-and-a-bit years) suggests otherwise, but hey-ho.
