After months and months of negotiations, Cheick Tiote has finally brought his seven-year stint at Newcastle to an end and left for the bright lights of China.

It was initially reported that Tiote was in talks to join former Toon teammate Papiss Cisse at Shandong Luneng, but today it’s been announced the Ivorian has signed for Beijing Enterprises Group FC on a two-year deal

Such a wonderfully illustrious and emotive name for a football club.

Indeed, Beijing Enterprises are currently bobbing around in mid-table down in China League One, i.e, the second tier of Chinese football.

And lo, we are contractually obliged to sign off with perhaps the only memorable thing (other than the 6,000 misplaced passes and 500 accrued yellow cards) that Tiote did in a Newcastle jersey…

  1. To Be Fair (Or is it Pedantic?) says:

Tiote once (and only once) bossed Man Utd’s midfield in our 3-0 win over them years back… Forget what year, but Demba Ba scored a brace and Yohan Cabaye scored a beautiful free-kick… Tiote then went missing for years in, as you correctly note, a maelstrom of yellow cards and niggling injuries… shame really.
