Continuing on the quest to become the biggest yuppie trolls in world football, PSG have trolled thousands of their own fans over the imminent arrival of one Kylian Mbappe.

With a convoluted, FFP-defying £166million ‘loan’ move for Mbappe now reported to be on the verge of completion, the Parisians roped in a willing accomplice in the guise of right-back Thomas Meunier to break news of a ‘grand announcement’ being made by his club on Twitter at 12:30pm on Monday.

As you might expect, this sent droves of fans into a collective social media tizzy as they prepared themselves for the sight of Mbappe wearing PSG colours for the first time.

Sure enough, 12:30pm rolled around and, just as promised, the Ligue 1 giants broke their big news…

Not Mbappe in a PSG shirt, but a simple ‘bon anniversaire’ to veteran midfielder Thiago Motta, who turned 35 today.

The old bait-and-switcheroo. Classic of the genre.

I’m not totally convinced that Mbappe is the real deal. The french league is too weak. On the Champions League last season, Monaco played against good teams like Spurs, Borussia and City but against the only very good team they faced – Juventus – they didn’t touched the ball.

I don’t know, he’s very good but brings me memories of one Jerome Rothen….
