No sooner were Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s feet through the door than Arsenal went and announced that Mesut Ozil has signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract extension at the Emirates.

The Gunners broke the news via a good old fashioned press release, with BBC Sport scribe David Ornstein once again breaking the good news to the fans.

As mentioned above, the £350,000-a-week wages involved see Ozil become the highest-paid player in Arsenal history, and the crux of the contract is that the German attacking midfield is now tied to the club beyond his 32nd birthday.

How’s that for a two-pronged good news bulletin? What embarrassing defeat against Swansea?

Bonkers. I’m a big fan of Ozil, but 350k a week? That’s almost double what Aubameyang is reported to earn. Clearly no science in how these numbers are come up with… actually, the science is probably the players’ demands.
