With his lucrative one-year deal set to expire next month, John Terry has reportedly intimated that he’d be willing to sign up for another year with Aston Villa – but on one condition…

According to the Guardian, a clause in his current deal entitles Terry to a one-year extension if Villa win promotion via the Championship Play-Off final this weekend.

However, the 37-year-old centre-half will only sign up for another tour of duty if he’s contractually allowed to sit out of both Villa’s games against his former club Chelsea.

Asked about the aforementioned stipulation, Villa manager Steve Bruce replied:

Well, we’ll not pick him [Terry] against Chelsea if that’s what he wants. I really genuinely hope he triggers it.

All those phone calls to him, he hasn’t been disappointed with it. You can’t be disappointed when you walk through here.

And to think, Terry prides himself on his unflinching loyalty and professionalism – both of which this ludicrous caveat immediately undermines.

Picture the scene: Villa need to beat Chelsea on the final day of the season to stay up and there’s Terry, sat smirking in the stands, carelessly clapping as the Blues go three-nil up before half-time.

What a putz.

C’mon, you need to IMAGINE scenarios just to call JT a putz?!?

I know this blog has such a long history of using any mention of Terry as an excuse to personally attack him that it’s flat-out comical most times. What gives? Did he sleep with your wife, too, or something?

@Murray and Mr Oioi: Of course we don’t like John Terry. Great, great defender in his prime but he’s demonstrably weird.

I honestly think that if this was a Maldini figure or a Totti leaving and refusing to play against there former team you would commend the sentiment. Similarly as you did when Marcell Jansen retired aged 29 because he didn’t want to play for a team other than Hamburg.

Also just because it’s JT your making up scenarios about him clapping, it’s all a little over the top tbh.

@Mr oi oi, the thing is that for Totti and Maldini it would have been a one-off. This is like the 6th thing that JT has done that’s as weird. Starting with adjusting his captains Armband to face the camera before missing the pen at the CL final, oh then the two “full kit” incidents…etc.

Starting the game, then getting substituted (or sent off) after 26 seconds would be a classy move.

They’re not even promoted yet! Shit on the villa
