The changeover continues to rumble on, but Chelsea are hoping to install Maurizio Sarri as their new manager this week by finally agreed a compensation deal with outgoing Antonio Conte.

Despite effectively being out of the door already, Conte remains under contract at Stamford Bridge while the two parties attempt to settle his release clause – which is a bit of a monster at £9million (his final year’s salary) – thus clearing the way for Sarri to take over.

Sarri, on the other hand, is primed and ready to make the jump having settled up with Napoli, with a two-year contract already agreed with Chelsea.

Indeed, the 59-year-old Italian is making plans for his new job which, according to the Mirror, involve living, working and sleeping on-site at the Blues’ training ground.

Little is offered in the way of detail, but it would appear that Sarri intends to eschew the industry standard five-star hotel, preferring to base himself at Cobham in the five-bedroom guest accommodation built on the edge of the campus by Roman Abramovic.

The house was also used by Andre Villas-Boas during his eight-month tenure as Chelsea boss in 2011/12.

Here’s hoping it also comes with a healthy (and we use that word quite wrongly) supply of ashtrays, because our Sarri smokes like a chuffing forest fire.
