Chelsea are reportedly preparing to offer a contract to N’Golo Kante that would make the diminutive midfield scamp the club’s highest-paid player.

PSG are said to be keen on coaxing Kante back to France so the Blues are going to chuck a plump deal worth around £290,000-a-week at him to keep him at Stamford Bridge for the foreseeable.

According to Gary Jacob with The Times, that would eclipse the £200,000 that Chelsea shovel into Eden Hazard’s bank account every seven days, though the club are also hoping to tie the Belgian forward down to a contract extension (on terms that would likely bump him up to top earner again) in order to prevent him from being lured Real Madrid-wards.

Jacobs also has word that Maurizio Sarri has opened talks with Inter Milan central midfielder Matias Vecino (who played under Sarri at Empoli), which would quite probably bring Danny Drinkwater’s Chelsea career to an abrupt halt, and perhaps even Tiemoue Bakayoko’s to boot. On that front, we shall very much have to wait and see.

So, Kante as Chelsea’s new highest roller, eh? Just goes to show how highly having 15 lungs (Didier Deschamps©) is valued in the Premier League in this day and age.
