Everton have finalised a deal to sign Lucas Digne from Barcelona for a reported fee of around £18-22million.
The French left-back had his named scribbled out and the word ‘Everton’ written next to it on Barca’s official teamsheet for Monday night’s friendly against Roma in Texas, leading many to speculate that the transfer was nearing completion.
Sure enough, Digne is now a Toffee having agreed a five-year deal at Goodison…

Digne struggled to impose himself in two seasons at Barca but still leaves the club a folk hero among fans for his actions during the terrorist attack in the city in August last year, during which he ran out onto the streets to give water and first aid to several victims outside his apartment. That’s some impressive moral fortitude, right there.
As for Everton, they’ve filled a long-time problem position with a young, dynamic French international full-back with over 20 caps to his name.
Nice work.
