Having left Arsenal at the end of last season, Arsene Wenger is poised to make his return to management having reportedly agreed to take over as head coach of AC Milan.

This is according to France Football, who have a happy knack of being right about this kind of thing.

When pressed on the subject in a Sky Sports interview a month or so back, Wenger stated that he was hoping to return to football “in the new year”.

Well, as per the aforementioned bulletin, it looks like the Frenchman will be replacing Gennaro Gattuso at the San Siro precisely then, with negotiations over a “quick start” said to be “close to completion”.

It’s perhaps also worth noting that ex-Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis recently agreed to take up the same role with the Rossoneri, though it’s unlikely (given the timescale) that he’ll be the man signing off on Wenger’s arrival.

Milan are currently fourth in Serie A, some 10 points behind leaders Juventus.

Le hard travail c’est cut out pour Le Boss.

Wow, that’s pretty poor treatment of Gattuso if true. He’s done a remarkably good job considering the off-the-pitch issues and the total doubt from the collective footballing world that he could do the job in the first place. And by all accounts the players are wholly dedicated to him. To even be in the Champions League places after the insanity of the beginning of last season and the upcoming sanctions is a great coaching feat as far as I can tell. Can’t imagine this would go down well at all and would seem to be a pretty stupid move all things considered.

He would be sacked within 6 months. There is no bloody way that Wenger and his naive approach to football can succeed in Italy.

He should coach in Spain or Germany or at PSG. By the way, am I the only one thinking that he is tailor made for Bayern Munchen? They play attacking football, they like to develop young players and the club usually stick to their beliefs. He is actually a better fit for Bayern than Arsenal!

Sorry to hear about Gattuso, who is likeable. They don’t have the best record overall despite current position. I don’t think this is the best move for Wenger either, why not an old friend like Monaco?
