Eduardo da Silva has officially completed his £6 million move from Arsenal to Shakhtar Donetsk, with the news being confirmed on the both clubs’ respective websites.

The 27-year-old Croatian striker has put pen to paper on a four-year deal at the Ukrainian giants, after being told he could leave the Emirates by manager Arsene Wenger last week.

The transfer brings an end to Shakhtar’s long-running pursuit of Eduardo, whom they first attempted to sign before he joined Arsenal from Dinamo Zagreb in 2007.

Lets open it up to the floor.

The after-effects of that injury (both physical and mental) proved to be insurmountable in the end, but do you think we ever saw the best of Eduardo at Arsenal pre-leg break?

I think people have a glorified memory of him pre-leg break, i dont think his record was that good and he didn’t get a fair run in the team this season, he showed glimmers early on and i think the medias vilification of him diving against celtic sent his confidence throught the floor. I wish him all the best at Shakhtar.

Loved Eduardo but the last comment is fair, not as great as talked about. He was a genuine goal poacher who after he had his leg broken he was never quite as deadly. Good luck Eduardo!

I have actually written to tell you has eaten all the pies and he is the most loved player at the Melbourne Victory (I support them) and his name is Carlos Hernadez. We love you Carlos!!!!

  3. Deckard says:

It’s easy to use that injury as an excuse – which was horrific I’m not downplaying that – but Eduardo was well on his way to being a flop before that tackle. A decent poacher but far from a Van Nistelrooy or Klose. It seems players wearing #9 Arsenal always flop.

For thew record – From Arseblog:

Eduardo converted 23.5% of his shots in the Premier League before his injury v B’ham City in Feb 2008, but just 6.3% after.

  5. Jelly Bean says:

Arsenal needed a goal poacher, and Eduardo looked like he was fitting into that role. So disappointed for him with that injury – and I wish him all the best at Shakhtar Donetsk.

  6. RHops says:

Eduardo was inevitably a different player after the injury. Not an Arsenal fan but when he first arrived I thought he could of been the player Arsenal needed, gutted about the way it turned out for him. All the best at Shakhtar.

As a Welshman, I really hope the same thing doesn’t happen to Aaron Ramsey. We need him so badly!

Nobody is as calm in the box and willing to let the ball take an extra bounce into a better position than Eduardo. Proud to own an Arsenal shirt with his name on the back.
