1. Go fourth and prosper
Both teams were still chasing the final Champions League position but Everton have now broken clear by going three points clear of local rivals Liverpool – which half of Merseyside will finish fourth?
2. Yak attack
Everton’s Nigerian striker upset the club by going AWOL in Africa but the break seems to have done him good with four goals in his last two games – all is forgiven?
3. Pet-ulance
Martin Petrov lashed out through frustration twice in the dying minutes and earned an unnecessary straight red card that will see him miss three matches – how popular will he be in the dressing room?

4. Home no longer where the heart is
Man City started the season with an unbeatable record at home but have started running out of steam at the wrong time – is Sven’s imported army of players feeling the strain of the Premier League?
5. Best form of defence is attack
City’s two highest scorers on the field were Vassell and Petrov with four goals apiece while Everton defender Joleon Lescott scored his eighth of the season last night – those Reeal Madrid rumours aren’t looking so daft now are they?
6. Hands up if that was a penalty
The ref managed to miss several handball incidents last night including one from Micah Richards that looked a stonewall penalty.
7. What’s happened to Elano?
He started the season hailed as the best transfer coup of the summer but the glove wearing Brazilian doesn’t seem to like the winter weather and was left6 out in the cold last night
8. Quick off the draw
Most pundits expected a stalemate last night, especially as a point would have kept both teams in the hunt for Europe – but Everton took the game to City and reaped the rewards.
9. Under watchful eyes
Fabio Capello was at the game last night and it would have been Lescott and not the previously ignored Micah Richsrds who caught his eye.
10. How Everton do it down under
Everton may play a lone striker system but in Tim Cahill they have a player that can link the midfield as well as scoring his share of goals too
