Not a wonder goal by any stretch of the imagination, but a classy finish not-the-less (shades of Torres?) from Liverpool reserves hotshot Dani Pacheco – who, by all, accounts knocks them in for fun for the Reds’ second-string.
Perhaps surprising then that, at the tender age of 19, Pacheco has already been deemed surplus to first-team requirements by Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson, who is said to be considering letting the Spanish youngster return home in January with either Malaga or Real Sociedad.
Pacheco has made a smattering of substitute appearances for Liverpool proper over the past couple of seasons, but Hodgson remains unconvinced about what he’s seen:
“He’s had moments when he’s looked good, others when not quite so, He’s working on his game. He featured in the unfortunate Northampton game.
“It was a great opportunity for those outside the first 13 or 14 to really show me, ‘You should be thinking of me’, but he didn’t take the chance.
“When will he get that chance again? Probably in one of these games in Europe – who knows? Maybe he will burst back onto the scene, but it is very difficult to do that in a reserve game.”
With half-decent strikers (however unproven) at a fair old premium at Liverpool of late, surely letting a promising starlet of Pacheco’s burgeoning potential leave so readily is bordering on insanity?
