The draw for the group stages of this season’s Uefa Cup has just been made, and the remaining British clubs all face tricky assignments. Newcastle Utd have been drawn in the toughest group, Group H, along with Palermo (who demolished West Ham), Celta Vigo (solid Spanish team), Fenerbahce (always a tough place to visit) and Eintracht Frankfurt. I’ve seen easier Champions League groups. Glenn Roeder’s side will struggle to make it to the next round.

Newcastle drawn in Uefa Cup Group of Death continued…
Spurs are also in a difficult group (see below), but they’re good enough to make it through, I think:
GROUP B
Tottenham Hotspur, Bayer Leverkusen, Club Brugge, Besiktas, Dinamo Bucharest
Rangers will be quietly much happier with their draw than that of their English counterparts. They can definitely come through this group:
GROUP A
Rangers, Auxerre, Partisan Belgrade, Livorno, Maccabi Haifa
Blackburn Rovers have perhaps the best chance of qualifying for the next stage. Their group is one of the weakest:
GROUP E
Blackburn, Nancy, Feyenoord, Basle, Wisla Krackow
The remaining groups look like this:
GROUP C
Sevilla, AZ Alkmaar, Slovan Liberec, Grasshopper, Braga
GROUP D
Parma, Lens, Heerenveen, Osasuna, Odense
GROUP F
Ajax, Sparta Prague, Espanyol, Austria Wien, Zulte Waregem
GROUP G
Panathinaikos, Paris St Germain, Rapid Bucharest, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Mlada Boleslav
