As I’m sure you’re aware, Andy Carroll’s eleventh-hour deadline day switch to Liverpool left Newcastle with £35 million to plug the gap left in their front-line by the bruising striker and about an hour or so to do it in.

As a result (and coupled with a face-mashing injury to Shola Ameobi), Toon are a little on ‘short’ side up top these days, with manager Alan Pardew left to scour the post-deadline free market in order to replenish his attacking options.

According to the Daily Mail, Pardew has already held talks with Jeremy Aliadiere, though a deal for the glass-legged Frenchman is still thought to be in limbo due to several ‘physical issues’.

However, fear ye not, as the Mail reckon that lumpen Finn Shefki Kuqi is the latest man in the frame, and that a short-term contract may be hammered out in time for Newcastle’s upcoming tie with Blackburn on Saturday.

That’s this Shefki Kuqi…

Rest assured Toon fans, for I will pray for thee.
