According to inside sources at the BBC, Liverpool flop Joe Cole is ‘very close’ to joining French side Lille on a one-year loan deal with talks going on in London as we speak.

You heard that right people, an Englishman moving abroad. Moreover, this is Joe Cole we’re talking about here – a fella that gets homesick when he’s outside the M25 for too long.

We’ll keep you posted mes amis.

What do the Liverpool fans make of this one? Will Cole leaving ‘be like a new signing’ for you lot?

Yesterday he was ‘doing a medical for QPR’. Not convinced.

Surely they’ll miss a player who’s better than Messi?

I’ve had a pop at Joe Cole in the past, his attitude and fitness have been hugely questionable over the last couple of years, and his decision making has always been too much of a problem for me at a top class level. He just doesn’t seem to know when to pick a pass, when to run his man and when to shoot.
But if this comes off, I’ll applaud him. It’s an oft written cliche that English players don’t travel well to other leagues, so it’s a brave man to try. He’s only 29 so here’s hoping that he travels to France like that other mercurial winger Chris Waddle and not like other less successful exports. (Speaking of exports, Michael Mancienne’s had a real baptism of fire at Hamburg. BvB and Bayern have given them an absolute roasting, and there have been plenty of goals, so it’ll be interesting to see what the German press are saying about his centre-back capabilities).
The other thing to come out of this will be whether it paves the way for a late bid on Eden Hazard, or whether it’s a straight replacement for the departed Gervinho.

  5. Andy Carroll says:

Win-win here: Cole gets playing time, Pool gets a player off their books, Lille gets a skilful player to bolster their squad and the 2 clubs build a good working relationship in lieu of future business.

EDIN HAZARD to Liverpool!!1 Come on Damien~!

@Nick Tissue are you going to use that joke on every Joe Cole post? Like it hasn’t been played out long enough already.
