Police have arrested and since bailed a 10-year old boy for delivering a brutal kick to a prone opponent’s head during a school football match between ESF Lions and Kitchee Escola in Hong Kong on Monday afternoon.

The ‘ESF’ in the Lions’ name stands for the ‘English Schools Foundation,’ which is a initiative set up to educate the children of ex-pats around the world and – as the child responsible was white and his 12-year old victim was Asian – it should come as little surprise that the parents of the latter filed a police complaint after the game which has led to the ESF Lions being branded as ‘white bullies’ in certain circles.

Yep, a school football match has become the centre of a footballing race row.

We don’t wish to get embroiled, but seeing as the Lions lost 16-0 the last time they played Kitchee (rumour has is that the Lions also lied about the score, claiming they had won 3-2) and they were already 4-0 down at the time of the cranial assault, maybe complete and utter humiliation may have also played its part?

like every other football match in china this match was fixed. that was supposed to happen

  2. Jarren says:

That kid’s got mental problems. Or maybe he’s watched too many videos of Pepe…

  3. Sjakie Meulemans says:

That wasn’t intentional, was it…The boy just hasn’t got the timing.

  4. Elliot says:

I understand that it was a bad tackle, but as someone who coaches under 8’s every week, THEY DON’T UNDERSTAND IT WAS WRONG! If a boy has done this, you need to sit him down and explain what he did wrong before handing out a harsh punishment like no xbox or something for 6 months. To arrest him is unjust, he is TEN. He isn’t eighteen but ten and it was a horrible challenge, the aftermath was not right.

  5. raza says:

Is it just me, or was the kid that kicked the other kid white?

  6. WildScotsman6 says:

    raza… read the article.. lol
The boy on the floor pocked the ball miliseconds before the kick went through, I honestly don’t believe it was intentional.

  7. QPR says:

He knows what he did wrong, it was a premeditated kick to the head because the ball never moved, he deserves to be scared by the police.

It wasnt a normal tackle that was a bit too enthusiastic.

  8. jackie wilshere says:

when i was 10 i was damn sure kicking another person in the face, on the pitch or off, is definitely wrong.

  9. Jay Jay says:

@Sjakie Meulemans: Great shout…I started getting angry seeing the slo-motion part….but seeing the real time part of the video made me realise that he has abysmal timimng in kicking the ball and I think genuinely tried to wallop the ball clear, thus slowing his touch the the ball – thus missing it – and connecting with the face on the follow through…I bet he was being encouraged by all football following parents on the sidelines to ‘CLEAR IT’….

@raza: Nice one Sherlock. There are other Nationalities that reside in other countries yknow…

  10. Gaz says:

That kid who got kicked is pretty tough. No Drogba/Busquets peekabo going on there!

  11. KingEric7 says:

Maybe he just thought the kid’s head was the winter ball?

  12. Leperse says:

raza, the white kid kicked the Hong Kong Chinese kid. The blue shirt team lost 16-0 and lied about they won 3-2. An than in rematch where they losing 4-0 in first half they resorted to dirty tackling and cheating.

Blue shirt team = Mostly white boys + some Chinese and other Asian descent + White coach

White shirt team = All HK Chinese boys accept for 1 half white boy + Chinese coach.

  13. Kira says:

What the heck!! That boy is so stupid! Why the heck would he kick someone in the face, knowing he was already on trouble because he kept fouling people, and THEN the coach stick up for him?!?!? That is stupid and dumb and I’m glad he went to jail.

  14. Steven says:

To all the people saying his punishment is unjust and not fair, think about it, this is a serious matter, to add on, not only is it serious, his kick could be lethal. He may not know what he did wrong, but he does deserve his punishment, because he needs to realize that what he did was wrong, not only does he not have sportsmanship and spirit, he intentionally kicked the oppose team member IN THE FACE, he was LOOKING AT THE FACE AND AIMING AT IT, NOT THE BALL. When people are 8 not to say 10, I am pretty sure he or she knows that hitting people is wrong, not to mention kicking people in the face is wrong, he didn’t consider the consequences, and did such action because he was losing, the school needs to discipline them and so must their parents, or else it will just get worse.
