After putting out Marseille in the quarters, third-tier part-timers Quevilly have once again defied the odds to keep their enchanted cup run going – sinking Ligue 1 opponents Rennes with a 92nd-minute winner (above) from Anthony Laup to reach the final of the Coupe de France.

Based in a small town in Normandy with a stadium that holds just 2,500 at it’s capacity, Quevilly – who are 14th and just seven points off the relegation zone in the Championnat National (Division 3) in France and count not one fully professional player among their number – haven’t reached the final of the Coupe de France since their halcyon days of 1927, though they did manage to reach the last four in 2010/11.

So, who are these minnows now scheduled to play in their second ever final appearance? Only Lyon (who beat another third division side in their semi, Gazelec Ajaccio) at the Stade de France.

Should be a promenade de gateaux.

These Third tier players have better technique than some premier league players.

  2. Steve says:

Looked like Iniesta to Xavi to Messi there. Awesome. I hope they take it in the final.

They even have awesome Charlie Brown-style shirts

  4. Zirconium says:

Their name being before Rennes’ suggests that they’re playing at home, and that is certainly a stadium that holds more than 2500. The fact that most the fans (well over 2500) are celebrating also suggests that that is their stadium.

    Fairytale stuff.

Speaking of France: have you seen this Belhanda belter for Montpellier against Marseille in the week? http://youtu.be/m85KEFCw2cA

The guy at 0:19 can’t believe his MIND

That is amazing. A dream come true, I wish I could be there playing!

Zirconium: They play their cup games in nearby Caen (Stade Michel D’Ornano), because, you know, a 2500 capacity stadium is hardly fit for a Cup semi-final.
