Jan Vertonghen Drops Eredivisie Trophy For Second Year Running, This Time On His Own Toe (Video)

You may remember that around this time a year ago, Ajax ‘keeper Maaaaaarten Sticklebricksekelenberg put a few extra nicks in the Eredivisie trophy when he threw it under a bus during the club’s victory parade around Amsterdam. He was later banished to Rome for his crimes against silver plate.

His accomplice atop that bus was one Jan Vertonghen, who managed to repeat the feat this year after the Dutch behemoths secured their 31st league title with a 2-0 win over VVV-Venlo yesterday.

Granted, it wasn’t quite as spectacular as seeing the shield fold in half under the front bumper of a ten-ton coach – but while giving a post-match interview, Vertonghen went and did himself an extreme physical discourtesy by chucking the damn thing on his own toe…

The curse continues.
