‘It’s Good To Dream’ – ITV Sport Plug Euro 2012 Coverage With Healthy Dose Of ‘What If?’ (Video)

By Chris Wright

As in, ‘what if England hadn’t been complete tripe for the past 40 years?’ – well, it turns out, we’d be referring to him as Sir Andy Sinton these days….

The video has already racked up 25,000 views on Youtube. We imagine around 15,000 of them are Gareth Southgate clicking ‘replay’ from the 1:05 mark over and over again with tears streaming down his face.

Hahaha, that was absolutely brilliant. ITV are fucking rubbish coverage-wise from what I hear (living abroad) but that was a phenomenal ad.

  2. Eamogomez says:

Not a patch on Jason mcateers carlsburg ad in 2002

  3. Temjin says:

No disrespect, but you have no idea how funny this is to watch as a non-english football fan

Immense media pressure before a major tournament sounds all too familiar, eh ? England have been their own biggest enemies by placing UNREALISTIC expectations on a talented yet unbalanced team marred by clash of egos. The media also contributes heavily to the hype ; the disgraceful treatment of Fabio Capello (who btw did a fantastic job) a stand out example.

Yep, England win a dozen World Cups, John Terry is the nicest of blokes you could come across and I slay fire breathing dragons for a living.

Temjin, we’re taking the piss out of ourselves!

Great advert – one of the best football tournament adverts ever. :)

“No disrespect, but you have no idea how funny this is to watch as a non-english football”

    Its quite obviously self-degrading humour

My personal highlight- ‘arise Sir Andrew Sinton’

imagine trying to alter the footage against germany in 2010 to make it look like gareth barry could keep pace with mezut ozil… a bridge too far methinks

  9. Toz says:

    That was seriously cringe worthy.

  10. urinal cakes says:

@Temjin – it’s funny watching it as an English fan. But not funny ha ha.

  11. zxx says:

is it funny? i couldnt tell.

  12. Anonymous says:

Like toz said, cringe. very embarassing. and it is ripping off a carlsberg ad from Ireland.

  13. Si says:

@Temkin – it is intentionally self-deprecating. The entire thing is tongue-in-cheek.

  14. Temjin says:

@All – Calm down, I think that Urinal Cakes (great name) got what I was trying to say. I thought it was funny because you think “Jesus, that’s gallows humor taken to another level.” I don’t think you could get away with that anywhere else. Not even in Brazil! (and they won a few world cups, but don’t make fun of the times they lost it). THAT’S WHAT I MEANT.
