The directors of Diego Maradona’s UAE-based side Al Wasl have politely requested that their first-choice ‘keeper Majed Nasser be suspended for a year without pay after being sent-off for laying an idiotic Zidane-style headbutt on Esmail Abdullatif just ten minutes into the Gulf Clubs Champions League Final against Al Muharraq…

The Al Wasl board have written to the UAE Football Association (UAEFA) to suggest that Nasser, who has already served a 17-match ban earlier in the season for slapping Al Ahli coach Quique Sanchez Flores and spitting at an opponent, be struck from the books for the rest of the 2012/13 season and sent back to work with his full-time employers, the Dubai police force.

An official club statement read:

“The disgraceful actions of Al Wasl goalkeeper Majed Nasser did not just have a negative effect on the reputation of Al Wasl, but the country as a whole.

“These irresponsible actions by Majed Nasser were the main reason why the chance of winning the GCC Champions League trophy was lost.”

Al Wasl’s Rashid Essa was also red-carded during the Final for ‘unsportsmanlike behaviour’ and will be made to face similarly harsh punishment – having his wages halved for the rest of the season.
