Atletico Mineiro rolled Figueirense over in the Brazilian league yesterday, sticking six unanswered goals past their opponents including a hat-trick (plus two further assists) from the outstanding Ronaldinho – his first goal looking a little something like this…

As you can see, Ronaldinho’s emotions got the better of him after he (perhaps a little fortuitously) floated in the opener at the far post, his teammates huddling around him as he collapsed to his knees and struggling in vain to stave off the tears.

Sadly Ron’s step father had passed away on Friday after suffering a heart attack at home (his real father also died of a heart attack when he was just eight-years old). Fittingly, his step son put in a performance to make him proud.

f*ck messi, this is the shit!

I don’t think Messi or Ronaldo could do that…most of Messi’s goals are from inside of the penalty box while Ronaldo’s long rangers are often taken from more traditional angles/perpendicular to the goal…

And this is not the first time ‘Dinho has scored a goal like this (remember 2002 England fans?). Ronaldinho is/was one of a kind. He’s 21st century genius and is in my list of the top 6 players of the 00’s: Zinedine Zidane, Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Ronaldo Luis Nazario de Lima, and Thierry Henry.

Just like this one, 2002 goal against England was a fluke. Nevertheless, Ronaldinho is probably the best player I’ve seen in my life, and nothing can take that away.

Always strikes me as odd that there’s ever a debate about whether or not a goal was a fluke.

It’s like saying ‘Hey, I won the lottery!’ and your buddy says that it was just a fluke. Doesn’t make the money worth any less. Doesn’t make the goal count any less.

    Steve,

A miss hit cross into the top corner is not as impressive as this shot where you can clearly tell he meant it.

Likewise, winning the lottery does not take any skill so there is no differentiation in talent between fluke/intent.

Scoring goals not only involves execution, but risk taking, and chance creation. Scoring a fantastic goal takes the best of these and combines them together. A fluke goal has poor execution, negligible risk taking, and negligible chance creation; thus, it is not as impressive. At least to me!
