Skandal has hit Swedish football after the Allsvenskan game between Djurgarden and Mjallby last night had to be abandoned five or so minutes before half time when home fans began pelting Mjallby players with anything they had to hand.

The problems arose when Djurgarden midfielder Yussif Chibsah went down in the middle of the pitch clutching his face and, while the home side eased off expecting the ball to be put out of play, Mjallby capitalised on their numerical advantage to score the opening goal of the game.

As Mjallby celebrated, the players were pelted by the home supporters with beer bottles and coins being flung in the general direction of the pitch. Mjallby’s Gbenga Arokoyo then hit the deck after being struck in the side by a projectile which was later found to be a pear – yep, a pear…

The referee then ordered all 22 players back into the dressing rooms and, after 45 minutes of deliberation with his fellow officials, decided to abandon the match.

According to Reuters, Mjallby are now almost certain to be awarded with a 3-0 victory whereas Djurgarden are expected to be looking at some fairly harsh sanctions from the Swedish FA for failing to control their greengrocers fans.

Not very uncommon for “fans” from any of the Stockholm (Djurgården, AIK, Hammarby) to act like utter assholes. They have quite a reputation. Riots, racist chants, throwing shit etc etc. They make the old fashioned english hooligans look like pussycats. But only if they are in a group of at least 100 people, of course.

I don’t care at all about Swedish football, but the media over here reports more about these assholes misbehaving then the actual results of the games.

I remember denilson doing a similar thing at craven cottage, I still wish someone had hit him in the face with a pear.

Skandal? is that a joke i dont get or have you just got sausage fingers?

  4. porcelain sandwich says:

Hahaha a pear, love it. Who takes a pear to a football game?

  5. Gazza says:

Well I suppose its lucky it was a pear and not a banana or else they would be in a whole lot more trouble

  6. Sthlm says:

For a couple of years ago, Djurgårdens goalie got hitten by hundreds of bananas, and nothing happend, this is embaressing!

  7. Hammarby says:

Sthlm: Djurgården always get pelted with bananas when we play them as they are from Apberget, (translation: monkey mountain). That has now become tradition.

C: What are you talking about? Racist chants haven’t been heard for at least 20-30 years, back then it was mostly AIK. But things have changed a lot since then. Also, there have been rarely any fights in the stands the last couple of years, all the hooligans fight outside the ground nowadays. The only incident we had in Hammarby the last season was when the police for no reason started using pepper spray at innocent fans.
