Never mind biting, Indonesian striker Pieter Rumaropen is facing hefty punishment after the Persiwa Wamena player delivered a nasty left hook to the referee’s face after taking umbrage at a debatable penalty decision.
The incident occured during the Indonesian Super League match between Persiwa Wamena and Pelita Bandung Raya on Sunday evening when, with the scores level at 1-1 and just a few minutes left to play, referee Muhaimin awarded a penalty to Pelita despite their defender appearing to take the ball.
Sent into apoplexy at the inhumanity of it all, Rumaropen then ran up behind the official and swung a heavy punch into the unsuspecting referee’s face – an assault which ended in him being admitted to hospital with a bust nose.
The match was then suspended for 15 minutes before a replacement referee emerged from the tunnel and made showing Rumaropen a red card his first order of business.
