Gold Cup Martinique Canada Soccer

Martinique racked up their first ever victory in CONCACAF Gold Cup history yesterday when Fabrice Reuperne ratcheted home a stonking first-time strike in the 93rd minute against Canada to win the game 1-0 with what was pretty much the last kick of the game.

And what a kick it was too, being only Reuperne’s second goal for his national team…

KABOOM!

Good for them but, wow, we suck at soccer. Rock bottom, eh?

I can’t even find Martinique in the FIFA World Rankings. That means they’re officially worse than Tahiti and my new favourites!

@porcelain: They’re not officially recognised by FIFA, that’s why you can’t find them. They’re somewhere between Qatar and Lithuania in the Elo rankings.

Canada was very poor. Not exactly the full strength squad but still probably should have beaten Martinique. It was a stunning strike but in fairness to them, Martinique were the better team throughout the entire match. We’ll always have the 2000 Gold Cup to remember fondly….
