In what may just become a semi-regular series here on Pies, we thought we’d pay homage to all those fantastic goals scored down through history which have immediately found themselves cruelly struck from the annals over a piffling offside decision, etc.

We’re going to kick off the series with a timely inaugural inductee, being as it was scored by Southampton’s new £15million man Pablo Daniel Osvaldo during his time at Roma – specifically against Lecce at the Stadio Olimpico back in November of 2011.

And a true stunner it was – or “wasn’t” as the case may be, as it was quickly chalked off by the officials due to a phantom offside spotted in the build up…

All that flair, all that gumption, all that technique, perfect execution and absolutely nada to show for it!

Tough formaggio, Pabbles.

**** back in 1982, is one that lives long in the memory.

@Rick: That one is on the shortlist, but I don’t want to ruin the surprise for everyone so I’ve snipped your comment.

  2. Ross says:

What a kick in the bean bag! Scoring one hell of a goal and having it ruled out by an incompetent lino!

  3. Elliott says:

One that you can feature next time. Ronaldos amazing finish for Portugal which Nani robs and then gets disallowed for being offside.

  4. Sam says:

Schmeichel, Wimbeldon, FA cup replay (I think), about 1996/7 – What a goal!!!

  5. Rory says:

For me, it’s hard to see past the dribble and lob Ronaldo scored against Spain only for it to be chalked off for Nani heading it on when he was judged to be in an offside position (even though he wasn’t) and the ball had already crossed the line when he made contact!
    Ronaldo’s reaction is priceless…

  6. Rob says:

Keegan’s volley for Southampton against Man Utd. Unbelievable goal.

  7. Lol says:

If I was ref, I would have overruled the silly linesman. Simply stunning goal only to be ruled out by an offside player not even anywhere near the ball.

  8. Two that spring to mind:

Platini for Juventus vs. Independiente, World Club Cup 1985. “Il Roi” was so disappointed he lounged nonchalantly on the grass for a while afterwards.

Nicola Berti for Italy vs. England, World Cup 1990. A lovely header in the dying moments incorrectly chalked off. Pretty academic. Few probably remember this one but I do.

  9. Scott says:

I remember Kenny Miller scoring a screamer against Chelsea for Derby and it was ruled out

  10. John says:

Leigh Griffiths’ freekick in an Edinburgh Derby against Hearts from 35 yards out. Scandalous decision…
