Sniffed out over on Twitter by the brilliant Mr @DannyLast and submitted here for your perusal, these be the CGI mock-ups for FK Vozdovac Belgrade’s new stadium, which the club have plonked slap, bang on the roof of a shopping centre – or “mall” as our Yank brethren may say – in the middle of the Serbian capital.

One of the few rooftop stadiums in the world, the 5,200-capacity Vozdovac Stadium was officially opened in March 2013 with FK playing their first league fixture there last weekend: a 1-1 draw with Jagodina.

The stadium is built around an artificial pitch as, we assume, getting real grass to grow on the top of a shopping centre (which is called The Stadion Shopping Centre if you were wondering) is a bit of a chore…

Apparently fans are already complaining that the thick concrete pillars put in place to support the roof obscure far too much of the pitch if you happen to get a seat behind them.

Still, it’s a bloody rooftop stadium!!!

Not quite stadiums, but there are plenty of futsal courts atop shopping centres in Japan.

Rather limits the possibilities for expansion.

  3. Serbia says:

Football Club Vozdovac played last year in serbian secon league, except of Red Star Belgrade who has 25k+ in every game, other clubs have very small visit. I think there is no need for expansion in the near future.

Red Star about 25k? don’t lie.

I went here last Sunday evening for the game v Novi Pazar, its a seriously awful stadium. Pillars are everywhere.
