Levski Sofia have been forced into issuing a statement to confirm that their new coach Ivaylo Petev is to continue as manager of their club having only been officially unveiled on Tuesday after a group of boisterous Levski ultras invaded his first press conference and forcibly stripped him of his new club colours and attempting to shove him out of the exit.

Petev replaced former Levski boss Slavisa Jokanovic earlier on Tuesday after he oversaw a fairly tepid start to the new season though, despite Petev being one of Bulgaria’s most promising young coaches having guided Ludogorets to successive league titles over the past two seasons, the hardcore element of Levski’s fanbase are not happy with the appointment.

The reason? The Levski ultras believe Petev is a supporter of despised city rivals CSKA Sofia…

This lead Levski owner Todor Batkov to brand the fans’ behaviour as “disgraceful”, before publicly backing his new man with an official statement of intent:

“It’s a stain on our club, this is unprecedented, but we stand behind our decision – Ivaylo Petev is the new coach of Levski.”

So there.
