Zeus be praised, Greece made it through to the 2014 World Cup courtesy of a 1-1 draw in the second leg of their play-off against Romania last night which, allied with their 3-1 first-leg victory, duly sent the Ethniki to Brazil with a 4-2 aggregate win – though they did offer the Romanians a customary olive branch through Vasilis Torosidis’ calmly struck own-goal 10 minutes after half-time.

With the ball breaking loose in the area, Torosidis did the decent thing and swept an impressively deft shot past his own ‘keeper to cancel out Konstantinos Mitroglou’s 23rd-minute opener with oodles of style and panache…
