Adelaide United forward Awer Mabil, making only his second appearance of the season, found himself presented with an absolute gift of an open goal against Perth Glory on Sunday afternoon.

Having already scored his first goal of the season earlier in the game, Mabil looked dead-set to double his tally when the ball bobbled loose to him at the far post with the Perth defence scattered.

However, the rust duly showed when the 19-year-old Kenyan-born striker decided he’d rather bugger the entire thing up in spectacular(ly inept) style…

Ouch. That’s definitely one for the next A-League blooper reel!

Thankfully, Mabil’s earlier goal eventually eased Adelaide to a routine 2-0 victory, which is probably just as well.

When you say Mabil was only making his second appearance of the season, you might want to remember we’ve only had three rounds so far, and the only reason he missed the first round was he was away representing Australia in the Asian Federation U19s tournament..

2 things really positive I take from this… 1) fantastic crowd it looks like! Glad to see the A-League having full stands! and 2) that was a truly class through ball to set the play up to start it all!
