Burnley 1-0 Southampton – Premier League – 13th December 2014

A second-half goal from Ashley Barnes moved Burnley out of the bottom three after a tight game at Turf Moor.

Southampton did have chances to win this game, with Dudsan Tadic seeing a penalty saved by Ton Heaton and Victor Wanyama and Nathaniel Clyne, amongst others, going close. However, the Clarets’ ‘keeper was outstanding throughout while the hosts worked hard as a team for the full 90 minutes. Barnes’ winner, on 73 minutes, came courtesy of a shot deflected in by Saints’ defender Toby Alderweireld and that goal was enough to fire Sean Dyche’s men to 17th place.

While Burnley climb out of the bottom three, Ronald Koeman’s Saints are now fifth.
