“By ‘eck chaps, it’s tipping it down out there”
With eventual winners Real Madrid not scheduled to turn up until the semis later this week, the 2014 Club World Cup farted into life in Morocco over the weekend with the quarter-final tie between Cruz Azul and Western Sydney Wanderers taking place at the rain-sodden Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
Despite the groundstaff’s best efforts, the game (which Cruz Azul somehow managed to win 3-1) turned into something of a farce as the heavens opened – leading to some rather wonderful images of players gleefully slippin’ and a slidin’ through the myriad puddles that pooled across the length and breadth of the pitch…
As we mentioned, the groundsmen did their level best to sop up as much of the rain as possible – using large sponges, no less…
Not that it did much good in the grand scheme…
Bit moist, yeah? Looks like it ‘n’all.
