As 10,11 combos go, you could definitely do worse

From back when Romania was fab, here’s Ilie Dumitrescu and Gheorghe Hagi combining ridiculously elegantly (thanks largely to a couple of inch-perfect reverse passes from the latter) to score Romania’s second goal in their famous 3-2 win over Argentina in Pasadena in the second round of the 1994 USA World Cup.

The goal starts with an Argentinian attack breaking down on the edge of the Romanian box and five passes later (six if you count Dumitrescu’s sumptuously casual finish) it’s in the back of Luis Isla’s net…

Beautiful work all round, and a very happy birthday to Hagi who turns 50 today!

Thanks to @Yokhin for reminding us of this little cracker.

One of the best games I’ve ever watched. I was very sad when Romania were eliminated by the dour Swedes in the next round.

Dour swedes?! Steady on! The swedish team were brilliant in every way!

On topic: I’ve always liked Romanias third goal in that argentina-game too. Great counter attack.

Sweden had some good attacking players that year but they hardly set the tournament on fire (despite ultimately finishing third). But even Brazil were dour in that tournament. And yes, the third goal by Hagi was awesome, especially the timing and weight of the final pass.

That was a classic match and that Romanian team had fantastic counter-attacking ability. Check out the first goal against Colombia as well, vintage Hagi run and assist.
