Scotland 6-1 Gibraltar – Euro 2016 Qualifiers – 29th March 2015

Steven Fletcher, a man in the spotlight for the wrong reasons recently, registered Scotland’s first hat-trick in 46 years on Sunday, as Gordon Strachan’s men battered new-boys Gibraltar.

Shaun Maloney opened the scoring after 18 minutes, courtesy of a spot-kick. However, a minute later the Mediterranean minnows stunned their hosts by netting an equaliser. The goal, scored Lee Casciaro of The Red Imps, was Gibraltar’s first ever in competitive football. However, unsurprisingly, the hosts soon took control of the game, with Fletcher, Maloney (with another penalty) and Steven Naismith putting the Scots 4-1 at the break.

Sunderland striker Fletcher netted two more after the break to end Scotland’s very long wait for a hat-trick (since Colin Stein scored four in 1969 against Cyprus) and put them just a point behind Group D leaders Poland.

  1. Terry Shedingham says:

This made for hilarious reading! Scotland are truly pathetic.

  2. Lol says:

@terryshedingham seriously? Because they concede one goal? Still on track for the Euros and it looks like the group is going to be the most interesting given the draw between Poland and Ireland. GTFO with your silly comments you twat.
