With the rest of the world on international duty, Palmeiras found time to grant 37-year-old midfielder Alexsandro de Souza (‘Alex’ to his friends) his testimonial over the weekend.
As well as tributes from ex-teammates and former colleagues, the referee was also keen to pay homage to the man of the hour, using his vanishing spray to write Alex’s name out on the pitch while he was preparing to take a free-kick…
Nice touch, though we can’t help but wonder how long the ref has been dying to do that during a real game.
